Swimming in Manhattan
We're not going to tell you that it's cold outside. If you live in New York, like us, you're probably tired of both the cold and the comments about how cold it is. (And if you live in a warmer place, we don't want to hear about it.)
But this winter is making us dream of sandy beaches or, at least, swimming pools. And we don't mean Brighton Beach or some loud-kid infested public pool. Please. Rather, we're thinking of the ultimate Manhattan luxury: your own private pool. According to the New York Times, there are about 100 private pools in the fairest borough and we tend not to argue with gray ladies. More importantly, there are a few available for you to swim solo (just remember to invite us to the housewarming party) and they are positively drool-worthy:
1. 247 Central Park West
Formerly owned by Abigail Disney (yes, related to that Disney), this house boasts a roof terrace with (duh) Central Park Views, a movie theater and your very own sixty-foot pool. It's on sale for $32 million and, if you ask us, it's worth every penny.
2. 131 East 64th Street
Here at Drool-Worthy we find the Upper East Side blander than Katherine Heigl, but the blue waters of this 40-foot pool seem as entrancing as Paul Newman's eyes. Throw in several terraces, a 1500 bottle wine cellar, five fireplaces and all we can say is... sold! Well, that's if you have $22.9 million.
3. One Jackson Square
After being on the market for more than a billion (New York) minutes, the price was recently chopped from 21.75 to 18.95 million and let's be honest, the Village is a lot more fun than the musty old UES. On the downside, every time you take a swim there probably would be hundreds of people staring at you from their cockroach-infested studios, but you can always tell them to go eat cake.
4. 33 Vestry
Don't know about you, but we hate renderings on real-estate ads (and that goes for Mr. Jackson above). Sure, the drawing looks nice, but how about you show us the real thing, Ms. Broker? All we can tell you is this duplex penthouse costs 14.95 million which probably means it's not a dump. Maybe just camera shy?
5. 232 West 15th
Fortunately, this Village townhouse is about as camera shy as Kim Kardashian, and back on the market (like Ms. Kardashian?) with a slightly reduced price tag: 10.95 million (down from 11.5 million). Granted, the pool is kind of short (26-foot) so it's probably not great for doing laps. But it's pretty deep (eight feet). Cannonball anyone?
So tell us, what's your favorite?
